EXCLUSIVE: Chandni Bhagwanani REACTS to Rupali Ganguly’s exit from Anupamaa after 4 years; says, “Mujhe bauth ajeeb laga aaise…”

Actress Chandni Bhagwanani played the role of Pakhi in the TV show Anupamaa, but left the show in 2024. She recently shared her thoughts on Rupali Ganguly’s exit from Anupamaa, a show that has been loved by the audience.

Chandni opens up about Rupali Ganguly quitting the show Anupamaa

Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, Chandni reacted to Rupali Ganguly’s exit from Anupamaa. She said, “The reason why Anupamaa is running is because it’s a story of a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister. It was very relatable to a common man and I was really shocked, mujhe bauth ajeeb laga aaise ye ho gaya that she wanted to quit I don’t know where the show is going to go then. She is the pillar of the show to be very honest. The USP of the show is Anupamaa and if she is not there, then I don’t know what’s gonna happen with the show. “

She further added, “It is strange, I don’t understand since the show already took a leap before if the show rating goes down then I feel it’s a need to take a leap or change the case or do something like this. Anupamaa has always been on number 1 and they have taken a big step. It has nothing to do with the makers as Rajan Shahi sir was also pushing that that it extends more but it didn’t happen for whatever reasons.” Chandni also stated that makers can anyway make the show work since they have done it in the past with other shows replaying the entire cast with a new perspective. However, she is saddened about Rupali’s exit from Anupamaa.

Reflecting on Rupali’s portrayal of the titular role, Chandni expressed admiration for her impeccable acting and emotional depth, which resonated with audiences. She also highlighted how hardworking Rupali is and how disheartening it would be for her to quit the much-loved show Anupamaa. She said, “For me, it’s very strange that there is no Anupamaa (Rupali) in Anupamaa. She has worked so hard, she has got this show after 9-10 years. Last time bhi she worked so hard when there was a leap, she was working with 5 units for 12 hours shift. She worked so hard how disheartening it must be for her also. No matter whatever happens I did not think Rupali ji would leave Anupamaa.”

Chandni comes in support of Rupali Ganguly amid backlash by netizens

Chandni stated that Rupali’s departure marks the end of an era for the show, and her presence will be deeply missed. The Code Red actress revealed that she has been working in the industry ever since she was a kid (5 years old) and has seen it all in the past 20 years. She comes in support of Rupali amid the trolling for allegedly removing the entire cast from the show. “I have never seen or heard in my entire career that someone is been removed because of someone. Unka kuch lena dena hi nahi hai isse, agar unka stand hota toh shayad leap nahi hota, Anuj (Gaurav Khanna) bhi show se nahi jata,” she concluded.  

Anupamaa has recently witnessed a 15-year leap in the storyline which led to a major change in the star cast. The new storyline focuses on new lead characters Prem (played by Shivam Khajuria) and Raahi (played by Adrija Roy).
